Spider Tie Website Makeover

This week’s project is spidertie.com. Not a bad site by any means but it definately needed a face lift. A static site prior to the make over with very little to keep the visitor’s attention. According to the stats, 80% left after a view of the home page. The site was moved to a wordpress theme and has increased use of screen real estate and a lot of content above the fold.

contactplugin 150x150 Contact Form 7 Review

Contact Form 7

(by Takayuki Miyoshi) is plugin that allows you to easily create contact forms for your site.  It allows you to either manually add elements to the form, or use an easy to understand interface to add the elements. You can also easily choose what the various attributes of each element are (e.g. the length, default value, whether or not it is required, etc.). Furthermore, it allows you to easily insert a quiz (you can even have it choose from multiple quizzes) or CAPTCHA to prevent bots from sending spam. It evens allows you to customize the error messages it sends the user when the form can’t be sent.  Once you create the form you can insert it into any page by copying a short line of text. However, it also has a few shortcomings. While it is easily able to check to validity of an email or URL, it isn’t able to check the validity of things like phone numbers, or ZIP codes. It also does not allow you to create different error messages for different fields. Overall I give it 3.5 stars.
